Paul Cogswell is
the Principal of Cogswell Law.
Cogswell Law delivers
high quality, focused Litigation and Dispute Resolution advice.
Cogswell Law advises
on most aspects of commercial law and civil litigation. Paul specialises
in contract disputes, company and shareholder disputes, building
and construction law, property and land law, negligence claims,
insolvency law and general commercial litigation.
Cogswell Law also
gives advice on strategy and risk management in the context of
contentious transactions and disputes for both commercial and
private clients.
Paul is a recognised
expert in his respective specialist areas and applies that experience
to provide timely, commercially pragmatic advice to his clients.
He practices in
all New Zealand Courts. He has also been counsel in arbitrations
and Adjudications under the Construction Contracts Act.
Clients of Cogswell
Law include small to mid-sized general practice law firms who
wish to engage counsel to resolve their clients disputes.
This may be as a result of the firm having no litigation capability
or due to a conflict of interest in the particular case. Paul
holds a practicing certificate as a solicitor, so can engage directly
with clients if that is considered necessary or appropriate.
In addition to his
private practice, Paul holds a Judicial Warrant as a part-time
Adjudicator in the Weathertight Homes Tribunal. This is a specialist
Tribunal set up as part of New Zealands Court system designed
to deal with the determination of leaky homes claims.
Paul is also able
to provide private mediation services to clients wanting to attempt
to resolve their disputes through alternative dispute resolution.
